How to get a Grenada passport?
Owning a Grenada passport is a privilege afforded to Grenada citizens. To acquire a passport, one must first become a Grenada citizen. There are several ways to obtain citizenship in Grenada: Descent or birth, marriage, naturalization, and investment.
Grenada citizenship by descent or birth
Children born in Grenada automatically become citizens. A child born abroad to at least one parent who is a Grenada national will be granted citizenship in the country. Additionally, a child who is adopted by a citizen of Grenada can claim nationality.
Grenada citizenship by naturalization
If you are a long-term resident of Grenada, you are eligible to apply for citizenship. Foreign residents can apply for a passport after residing in the country for seven years, while citizens of the Commonwealth can apply for a passport after five years of residence.
Grenada citizenship by marriage
If you are married to a Grenada citizen, you are eligible to apply for citizenship. It does not matter if your spouse was born in Grenada or was naturalized as a citizen, you are eligible to apply for a passport either way.
Grenada citizenship by investment
Launched in 2013, the Grenada Citizenship by Investment Program allows qualifying individuals and their families to get a passport in exchange for an investment in the country’s economy that amounts to at least $150,000.
There are two routes you can take to obtain citizenship:
Investment in the National Transformation Fund (NTF): The National Transformation Fund was established to boost Grenada’s economy. The main applicant has to make a contribution of at least $150,000 to obtain a passport or donate $200,000 as a family of four.
Investment in pre-approved real estate: Two options are available for a real estate investment. The investor can make a joint investment at a minimum value of $220,000 per person or purchase a pre-approved property at a minimum value of $350,000. In both cases, the property must be held for five years if the buyer wants to become an economic citizen of Grenada.
Grenada passport application process
The process for Grenada citizens to apply for a passport is straightforward. Procedures and fees may vary depending on the type of application and the applicant, as well as the source of the application.
- Complete the official Grenada passport application form. Enter biodata and get a qualified recommender to endorse the application.
- Gather the required documents. This may include the old passport, proof of citizenship, letter of consent for minors, proof of marital status etc.
- Attach passport photos. These must be no more than six months old. The back of one photo must be signed by the recommender.
- Pay passport application fees. The amount is dependent on the method of submission, destination, and if expedited service is required.
- Submit completed application to the Royal Grenada Police Force. This can be done in person or via registered mail and processing time will vary depending on how and where the application is submitted.
