Frequently Asked Questions

The Swiss passport is considered one of the best in the world, ranking second on the Global Passport Index by Global Citizen Solutions. It provides visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to 183 destinations. Switzerland stands out for its excellent global mobility and  even its high quality of life.

With a Swiss passport, you have the right to live and work in Switzerland, as well as in all EU and EFTA countries like Iceland, Liechtenstein, and Norway. This freedom of movement is based on agreements with the EU, making it easy to move and settle across Europe.

Swiss citizenship comes with many strong benefits, including a powerful passport that allows visa-free travel to o 183 countries and the freedom to live and work across EU and EFTA countries. Citizens also enjoy a very high quality of life, with access to excellent healthcare, education, and social security systems. In addition, it offers long-term stability, the right to vote, easier access to property and investment opportunities, and the option to hold dual nationality.

The 8-day rule in Switzerland allows foreign workers, especially from EU and EFTA countries, to work for up to 8 days per year without needing a work permit. However, they must usually register their work at least 8 days before starting, although some very short-term jobs may not require registration.

Getting a Swiss passport means first becoming a citizen of Switzerland. You can qualify through descent (if you have Swiss parents), marriage, or long-term residence, like the Swiss Residency by Lump Sum Taxation. In most cases, you need to live in Switzerland for about 10 years, hold a C residence permit, and show that you are well integrated. The process also requires approval at the local, cantonal, and federal levels.
