Originally from Colombia and living in the United States, Gustavo Fonseca built his career in medicine while nurturing a deep personal connection to the arts. As he explains,
“I wanted to invest my heart, my money in the arts field. Because I honestly think it’s as important as the scientific world, and yet, sometimes governments tend to see it as of lesser importance.”
This shaped the family’s decision to pursue a pathway that enabled them to be mobile and flexibly move across borders while making a meaningful cultural contribution to society.
Portugal emerged as the ideal fit.
Colombia (residing in the United States)
Portugal (Porto)
Portugal Golden Visa (Cultural donation)
Mobility, flexibility, arts contribution
GCS helped the family assess available investment options and identify the cultural donation route as the most authentic fit. As Gustavo notes,
“We felt that the cultural donation was more along the lines of what we wanted to do, in a more altruistic way. It just felt better, so to speak.”
Through a values-based review, the cultural donation route emerged as the strongest match for the family’s interest in supporting the arts.
GCS guided the family through Portugal’s cultural institutions, ultimately helping them select the Serralves Foundation in Porto. Gustavo recalls,
“I went to the foundation as a visitor. I felt that it was very lovely. We found the surroundings to be a wonderful institution. We at heart already knew that the foundation was the one that we felt comfortable and happy with.”
From documentation to submission and time-sensitive updates, GCS coordinated every step, ensuring a smooth and transparent Golden Visa process.
GCS coordinated the cultural contribution, handled documentation, and guided the family through each stage of the Golden Visa application. As Gustavo highlights,
“When there is an emergency, you can count on GCS. They had the ability to do both — the consistency to prevent emergencies, and the resources to take care of all aspects including the bureaucracy. They communicate so that I know what’s going on.”
Gustavo and his family have secured Portuguese residency and a European base that aligns with both their practical and personal priorities. The process reinforced the value of choosing a pathway — and a partner — that reflects long-term goals and values.
A Golden Visa route that supports a “snowbirding” lifestyle between continents.
