Digital nomadism—once a niche concept from the 1990s—has evolved into a global movement, fueled by advances in technology, high-speed internet, and the normalization of remote work. The COVID-19 pandemic accelerated this transformation, turning remote work into a global norm and inspiring professionals to pursue lifestyles centered on flexibility, affordability, and cultural exploration. In response,
governments worldwide introduced digital nomad visas and residency frameworks, offering legal clarity and new opportunities for mobile professionals.

To better understand and benchmark this trend, Global Citizen Solutions developed the Global Digital Nomad Report, built on 15 carefully selected indicators grouped into five thematic sub-indices: Procedure, Citizenship and Mobility, Tax Optimisation, Economics, Quality of Life, and Tech & Innovation. Each indicator is weighted according to its relevance to nomads’ decision-making, based on academic research, expert input, and publicly available data, providing a comprehensive view of the world’s most attractive destinations for the global remote workforce.
