The Cyprus Digital Nomad is a residence permit for non-EU and non-EEA citizens who work remotely for an employer or clients based outside of Cyprus. The program is run by the
Civil Registry and Migration Department (CRMD), which has set the monthly income requirement at least €3,500 a month after tax. The permit is initially valid for one year, but if you wish to stay in Cyprus longer, it can be renewed for up to two years.
You apply in person, but moving across countries and dealing with international government can be difficult, so working with an immigration agency can make the process easier. At Global Citizen Solutions, we have over a decade of advisory expertise, and we understand the value of transparency.
Therefore, this guide will help you self-screen for the Cyprus Digital Nomad Visa, including requirements, a document checklist, the detailed application process, and more.
Cyprus Digital Nomad Visa: Key Insights
The Cyprus Digital Nomad Visa is a residence permit that allows remote workers to live and work in Cyprus for up to one year, with the possibility of extending it for two more years. Applicants have to be employed by a company based outside of Cyprus or have clients outside of Cyprus if they are freelancers or self-employed to qualify. Another requirement is to earn a minimum monthly income requirement of €3,500 after tax. The visa does not allow local jobs, so you are only allowed to work remotely.
Cyprus also ranked in the 46th spot on the Global Digital Nomad report by Global Citizen Solutions, and scores 88 points for the procedure index which covers important aspects like application process, visa costs, visa duration, income requirements and more.

- Legal right to reside in Cyprus: The first benefit of getting a Cyprus Digital Nomad Visa is that you get legal residence in the country. If you want to extend your stay beyond a year, you can renew the permit for up to two more years, for a maximum stay of three years.
- Right of residence for your family: As a person with a residence permit under the remote work visa in Cyprus, you can enjoy the Mediterranean country with your family. This includes a spouse or partner and minor children.
- No property purchase required: Unlike the Cyprus Golden Visa, which requires a real estate investment, the digital nomad visa is a low-cost option for those still exploring and with different goals.
- A route to Cyprus tax benefits: If you are interested in Cyprus also for its friendly tax environment, then spending more than 183 days in Cyprus in a tax year makes you a tax resident. You could qualify for the Cyprus Non-Dom Tax Residence regime where you pay 0% Special Defense Contribution on dividends and interest for up to 17 years.
- A lower-day route to Cyprus tax residency (the 60-day rule): Cyprus lets you qualify as a tax resident with as few as 60 days in the country in a calendar year, instead of more than 183. But you need to meet the requirements before you can plan around this. We also advise speaking to a tax adviser beforehand.
To be eligible for the Cyprus Digital Nomad Visa, you must meet the following requirements:
Family members can reside in Cyprus for as long as the main applicant’s visa is valid. Do note that each family member must submit a distinctive temporary residency application, and pay the respective fees.

These are the documents that are required when applying for a Cyprus Digital Nomad Visa. We created a checklist format that makes it easy to self-screen and know which documents you need, because some depend on whether you are self-employed with clients outside Cyprus or employed by a foreign company.
This is the step by step application process with full transparency on what to expect at each stage. At Global Citizen Solutions, we have helped over 15,000 clients across the world, and working with a reputable immigration agency can take a lot off your plate and make the relocation process very easy from start to finish.
Step 1: Confirm you qualify
Before spending any time pr money of the application, first confirm that you qualify and are a good fit for the Cyprus Digital Nomad Visa. This can start by making sure you are a non-EU/EEA national, work for an employer or clients outside Cyprus, and you earn at least €3,500 a month after tax.
Step 2: Gather your documents
The Civil Registry and Migration Department CRMD expects a complete application pack with all the required documents at the time of submission. So, it will be extremely beneficial to collect the documents ahead of time.
- A passport valid for at least three months
- Proof of income can be: payslips or bank statements for the last six months.
- Your employment contract and employer letter, or your client contracts if you are self-employed.
- A criminal record certificate and more.
Step 3: Travel to Cyprus
The application for the Cyprus Digital Nomad Visa cannot be filed from another country. You will need to travel to Cyprus with a visitor or tourist visa if your nationality needs one. Make sure to keep proof of your entry date. The passport page showing your last entry will go into your application. The Civil Registry and Migration Department gives you three months from arrival to submit.
Step 4: Secure your accommodation, insurance and medical tests
Having your proof of accommodation, health insurance, and medical tests is also part of the full application that needs to be submitted all at once. So, make sure you have your rental agreement or title deed for a home in Cyprus, full health insurance cover for the duration of the visa, and all your medical tests ready by the time you arrive in Cyprus.
Step 5: Book your appointment and submit the full application
You file applications in person at the Civil Registry and Migration Department (CRMD) in Nicosia, and you book appointments through the CRMD’s online platform. At the appointment, you will hand in the full application and pay all the fees. The total fee is €140 per person, including €70 for initial registration and another €70 for permit issuance. The CRMD reviews your file, and the outcome will take about 5 to 7 weeks.
Step 7: Collect your residence permit
If your application is approved, you will be informed, and you can then collect the residence card in person. The first residence permit is valid for one year.
Step 8: Renewal
You can apply for a renewal one month before the permit expires. The process will still go through the Civil Registry and Migration Department, and you must still meet all requirements. The renewed permit can be granted for up to two years.
According to information provided by the Migration Department in Cyprus, the average processing time for the Cyprus Digital Nomad Visa applications is about five to seven weeks from the time of submission to approval.
The Cyprus Migration Department also states that the application fees for the Cyprus Remote Work Visa are structured as follows:
- Issuance or renewal of a temporary residence permit: €70
- Registration to the Aliens’ Registry: €70

When you have your Cyprus Digital Nomad Visa, you will officially have legal residency in the country, but this won’t automatically determine the taxes you pay. It is actually the days you spending Cyprus that will determine that. Here is how it works, including qualifying for the Cyprus Non-Domicile Tax Residence Program.
If you spend over 183 days in a tax year, you become a Cyprus tax resident. This means your personal income will be taxed. Personal income in Cyprus, based on the Tax Department, is taxed at up to 35%, and the first €22,000 is tax-free.
Qualifying for Non-dom status
If you weren’t born in Cyprus and haven’t been resident there for 17 of the last 20 years, you will most likely qualify for the non-dom tax regime. This means you will pay 0% Special Defense Contribution on dividends and interest for up to 17 years. However, this does not apply to salary or freelance income.
Home country: Regardless of how you are taxed in Cyprus, there is a possibility that your home country will still expect you to meet your tax obligations. This is mostly the case for US citizens who still need to file US returns.
