Are you eligible for Portugal Golden Visa?
Portugal’s Golden Visa remains one of Europe’s most sought-after residency programs with investment options starting from €200,000, a minimal stay requirement of just 14 days per two-year period, and a clear pathway to one of the world’s most powerful passports.
The program has evolved significantly since 2023, so use this short test to confirm you meet the current criteria before moving forward.
Who Can Apply for the Portugal Golden Visa?
The program is open to non-EU, non-EEA, and non-Swiss nationals who can make a qualifying investment and meet a clean personal and financial profile. Here’s what Portugal requires:
Nationality — Open to all non-EU, non-EEA, and non-Swiss citizens aged 18 or over.
Investment capacity — You must commit to one active qualifying route. Real estate no longer qualifies. Current options include: €200,000 in cultural production or heritage restoration (€250,000 outside low-density areas), or €500,000 in an approved Portuguese investment fund (private equity or venture capital, regulated by the CMVM, with at least 60% invested in Portuguese companies and a minimum 5-year maturity).
Minimum stay — You must spend at least 14 days in Portugal during each two-year renewal period. This is one of the lowest stay requirements of any European residency program.
Clean criminal record — No convictions for crimes punishable by one year or more under Portuguese law.
Proof of funds — A Portuguese bank account and documentation confirming the legal source of your investment funds.
Health insurance — A valid policy covering Portugal for you and any family members included in the application.
Family members — Spouse, dependent children, and dependent parents can be included in your application.
Citizenship pathway update: As of May 2026, Portugal’s updated Nationality Law requires most applicants to hold 10 years of legal residency before applying for citizenship (7 years for EU and CPLP nationals). Permanent residency still requires 5 years.
If you’re unsure whether your investment route still qualifies under the updated rules, this test will help you find out in minutes.
